About NameLore

NameLore exists for one moment: when you need a name that means something. A baby on the way, a character taking shape on the page, a curiosity about where your own name comes from — whatever brings you here, the answer should be accurate and a pleasure to read.

Every entry is organized by meaning first. Instead of scrolling endless alphabetical lists, you browse themes — moon, fire, hope, wisdom — and find names whose stories fit the one you want to tell.

How entries are verified

Name meanings are easy to get wrong, and much of the internet repeats the same unsourced claims. Before a name is published on NameLore, its origin and meaning are checked against established etymological references. When a meaning is uncertain or disputed, we either say so plainly or leave the name out entirely. No invented meanings, no filler entries.

NameLore is free, ad-light, and made by one person on the side. If a name on the site helped you, you can chip in a coffee or leave a tip — Buy Me a Coffee or Portaly. It quietly keeps the lights on.
